FAQ

How many sessions do I need?

There’s no hard and fast rule with mental health, unfortunately. Whilst I can’t offer you a definitive answer on how many sessions you may need, I often tell clients to have at least 6-8 sessions in mind initially. At this point, we will discuss how therapy has been and what is ahead of us. Every 6-8 sessions we can briefly review our progress and discuss our plan for future sessions.

How often are sessions?

I recommend most people start with sessions once a week. This will help us both understand your difficulties and context sooner and will help us to build momentum. We can then look at moving to fortnightly sessions and nearing the end of therapy to monthly sessions to finish.

What happens in the first session?

I will ask you to share a bit about yourself and what has been happening for you to try to understand your situation. I will also try and understand what you would like to gain from therapy and how you would like your life to be different. Collaboratively, we will discuss a plan to reach these goals and outcomes.

There is no need to prepare anything specific. Some people like to have an idea of what they want to share and work on but if you’re not quite sure, that’s ok too. We can explore this in our session together.
