My Approach to Therapy

My approach to therapy is collaborative and based on your strengths to support you towards what you would like to achieve utilising evidence based scientific interventions that are specific to your personal struggles.

As your therapist, I will work together with you to gain a better understanding of these struggles, your context and support you to develop and implement a tailor made plan towards your goals.

My goal as a therapist is to:

Recognize and Capitalize on Your Strengths:

You have specific strengths and coping strategies that have helped you survive thus far. Together we can figure out ways to use those healthy coping strategies now in your current situation.

Identify Obstacles and Shift Your Thinking:

Sometimes it is hard to recognise obstacles such  as distorted or unhelpful thinking getting in the way of you feeling better when you’re in the midst of feeling low, alone or anxious. It can be helpful to have an independent professional who can help you to identify and address these obstacles.

Empower You to Make Changes:

My aim is to not have you be reliant on me or therapy in the long term to make changes in your life. By helping you understand how you arrived at your current situation and giving you specific tools to manage future difficulties I hope to encourage your confidence to continue independently of therapy.

I work with a range of different people experiencing a range of different difficulties. Whilst each person has arrived at the same place at my ‘therapeutic door’, each person’s journey is unique. It makes you who you are. You are unique and your therapy should be too.
